Can I start without an integration?
Yes. Add recipients yourself or upload a CSV or Excel file. An integration really comes into its own for moments that keep recurring automatically.
Do I need a subscription or a minimum quantity?
No. Activating your account is free and needs no credit card. You pay per dispatch and can start with a single card.
Can I see it for myself first?
Yes. A test card and sample pack ordered via the website are free and arrive within seven days. You can also use your €10 starting credit to send yourself a card with your own design from the platform.
What do I need to supply?
A design (or create one in the editor), a list of recipients and your text. Upload your list as it is; the mapping tool lets you match the columns to the right fields.
How do I send you my addresses?
Add recipients one by one or upload your own CSV or Excel file as it is. The mapping tool lets you match the columns to the right fields.
Will I see the card before it’s sent?
Yes. The platform shows you a preview for every recipient before you order.
Can you run the whole campaign for us?
Yes. We help you think through the moment, text and design, take care of the infill if you like, and send every card written with a real pen. Book a call to discuss what suits you.
Does Lightr work for agencies too?
Yes. Agencies manage multiple flows and tagged templates from their own account. Incoming webhook flows and outgoing scan webhooks can be filtered per template.
Is the card really written with a pen?
Yes. A writing robot moves a real pen across the card. No handwriting font, no printed handwriting.
Which formats are available?
Postcards A6 and A5, flat cards A6, A5 and square, folded cards A6, A5 and square, and an A4 letter. All formats, with dimensions and text space, are listed on products.
How much text fits on a card?
That depends on the format: up to 250 characters on a postcard A6, 350 on a folded A6, 450 on a postcard A5, 400 on a square card, 550 on a flat or folded A5 and 900 on an A4 letter.
Can every recipient get a different text?
Yes. Every card can have its own text, not just a different first name. You add the text for each recipient through your list or integration.
Which handwriting styles are available?
Choose a handwriting style that suits you, from neat to playful. The most popular ones are shown on handwritten cards. Or have your own handwriting digitised.
Can you use my own handwriting?
Yes. Choose shared handwriting (€100) or exclusive handwriting (€400), one-off and excl. VAT. After your request, you’ll receive writing sheets to fill in and send back. We then digitise your handwriting, and it’s available in the platform within 2 to 3 weeks. More on your own handwriting.
Can I use my own design?
Yes. Front and back entirely in your own design, with no Lightr branding. Upload it or create it in the editor; we print it in-house.
What paper is the card written on?
On sturdy 350 gsm card.
Which envelopes are available?
Envelopes to fit A6, A5 and 14×14; other colours on request. The address is written with a real pen or printed, and you can have your own seal in the Port Betaald (postage paid) box at no extra cost.
Can I include something extra in the envelope?
Yes. A flyer, discount card, business card or something else: you supply it yourself, or we arrange it for you. Get in touch and we’ll work it out together.
Does the QR code cost extra?
No. The QR code is free, and it’s up to you whether it goes on the card.
Can I include a gift card?
Yes, through Giffy. The gift card is linked to the recipient’s email address and emailed to them once they scan the QR code.
Can the gift shop match our branding?
Yes, with your own logo, colours and copy on the claim page, the email and the gift shop. Recipients choose for themselves, anything from a gift card to a donation to charity. The minimum gift amount is €5. See an example of a gift shop in its own branding.
What’s included in the price?
The card price includes writing, printing and delivery by post, international too. Envelopes and VAT are not included.
What does a handwritten card cost?
You pay per card, with no subscription. The price depends on format, quantity and delivery; work it out instantly on the pricing page.
Is the stamp included in the price?
Yes, postage is included in the card price, including abroad. We don’t use stamps; we use Port Betaald (postage paid).
Is an envelope included in the price?
No. The card price covers writing, printing and postage, including abroad. The envelope and VAT are extra.
Do the prices include VAT?
No. All prices on the site are excl. VAT.
What if I send a lot of cards, or send regularly?
One-off: you pay the volume tier price for the number of cards in that order, up to 4,999 cards; above that, we’ll quote a custom price. Ongoing: below 1,000 cards a year, the volume tier applies per order. From 1,000 to 2,500 cards a year, an annual volume agreement gives you a fixed price per card, even if your orders are spread across the year. From 2,500 cards a year, we’ll put together a volume quote. You only ever pay for the cards that are actually sent. Request a quote.
Can I pay on account?
Yes, that can be switched on. On the 1st of each month, you receive one invoice for all the cards from the previous month.
How quickly are the cards sent?
Orders of fewer than 2,500 cards are dispatched within two to three working days and delivered by post within seven days of purchase. For larger quantities, check the platform or request a quote.
Can I send abroad?
Yes. Lightr sends within the Netherlands, the EU and the rest of the world, and you can mix destinations within one campaign.
Can everything be sent to one address?
Yes. With bulk delivery, the whole shipment goes to one address. With a batch, Lightr sends directly to multiple addresses.
Can I still change or cancel an order?
You can do that until the order has been purchased in the platform. After that, it can no longer be changed or cancelled.
Can I send handwritten cards automatically?
Yes. Add recipients in the platform, upload a list or connect your system via webhook or API. See integrations.
What is the easiest way to integrate?
The webhook. You send your data across and decide in Lightr which card goes out, A/B testing included. The API is for anyone who wants to build the card in their own software.
Which systems does Lightr work with?
With any package that can send a webhook when triggered, such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, monday.com, Shopify, WooCommerce, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo. Or directly through the API. You’ll find examples for each package on the integrations page.
What’s the difference between the webhook and the API?
With the webhook, your system just sends the data, and in Lightr you set who gets which card and when. With the API, your own software creates the card itself.
How many requests can a webhook handle?
A webhook accepts up to 60 requests per minute. Requests above that limit are rejected with HTTP status 429.
Can a scan trigger something in my own system?
Yes. With an outgoing scan webhook, Lightr passes scan activity to a connected system, such as your CRM.
What will I see after sending?
See who scans the QR code, recipient by recipient. The scan webhook also passes each scan to your own system.
Where is my customers’ data stored?
In the Netherlands. You set the retention period yourself, with a minimum of twenty days. After that, personal data is anonymised. Want to change the retention period? Just get in touch.
Do you enter into a data processing agreement?
Yes, with every customer whose customer data we process. You download it from your online account, fill it in and send it to us to sign.
Can I send a card to someone who has unsubscribed from my newsletter?
For an existing customer, usually yes. The email opt-in under the Dutch Telecommunications Act doesn’t apply to post, and unsubscribing from your newsletter relates to email. If someone objects to your advertising in general, or to receiving post, you stop. Mention in your privacy statement that you also contact customers by post.
Can I send post to people who aren’t customers yet?
Stricter rules apply here. For consumers who aren’t customers, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) assumes consent is required, and you always check Postfilter (the Dutch opt-out register for addressed post) first: don’t send advertising mail to anyone listed in it. Advertising mail to consumers should refer to Postfilter. Post to business contacts falls outside Postfilter. If you’re unsure about your situation, talk to your privacy adviser.
What do you measure with the QR code?
Which card was scanned, and when. That shows you, recipient by recipient, who responded.
Can I see who scanned?
You can see which recipient scanned, how often and when they last scanned. You can’t see who was holding the card at that moment: the scan itself is anonymous.
What scan rate can I expect?
There’s no universal scan rate. Results vary with the campaign goal, your relationship with the recipient and how clear the call to action on the card is, among other things.
Is a scan the same as an order?
A QR code per recipient shows you who scans. A scan isn’t an order; you’ll see whether someone goes on to buy in your own webshop or CRM.
Is a handwritten card from Lightr direct mail?
Yes. It’s post you send directly to a customer, prospect or employee. The difference: every card is written with a real pen and can go out at a different moment for each recipient.
Can the QR code link to Google or Kiyoh?
Yes. The code points to whatever address you enter: your Google review page, Kiyoh, Trustpilot or your own form. Every recipient gets their own code.
Can I offer something in return for a review?
Careful. Google doesn’t allow any reward in exchange for a review, not even an honest one, and according to the ACM (the Dutch consumer authority) a rewarded review must be clearly identifiable as such. If you want to give something, make it a thank-you that doesn’t depend on a review. The scan webhook does tell you exactly who scanned, so you can follow up in a targeted way.
What if a customer is unhappy?
You decide who gets a card, through your list or a rule in your system. Leave out customers with an open complaint, or send them a sorry card first.
Do I need to upload a new birthday list every year?
No. You add your contacts to a birthday flow once and set up the card, the text, an optional gift card and how many days in advance it goes out. After that, a card goes out automatically every year: once, on an ongoing basis or a set number of times.
What if a birthday person moves house?
The card goes to whatever address is in the address book at the time of sending. If you change an address, the next card goes to the new one. For each contact, you can see whether the flow is running and which order it produced.
In a neighbourhood campaign, can I choose which addresses get a card?
Yes. You set the radius around your job and choose which addresses to include. You can also automate it: your CRM sends just the address and the date, and Lightr finds the addresses based on your filter.
Can I deliver neighbourhood cards myself?
Yes. The cards are then delivered to your address in one go, and you pop them through the letterboxes yourself while you’re in the street. The card, your van and the job all turn up together.
Do neighbourhood cards have names on them?
No. A neighbourhood card is addressed to the residents at that address, without a name.
Can anyone start a neighbourhood campaign?
Neighbourhood campaigns are still in BETA and are switched on per organisation. Get in touch and we’ll check whether they’re available for you.
Can every prospect get their own landing page?
Yes. The QR code on the card then opens a page just for that prospect, with a short personal video, a proposal tailored to their business and a button to book a meeting. Get in touch to talk through the options.
